Saving up to 2,500 human lives a year on European roads as well as 20 billion Euros of social spending, reducing by 50% emergency service times following an accident. These are the objectives of the eCall system, a device on board, mandatory form 2015 on all the new cars, that can automatically make an emergency call to the single European number (112), also indicating the exact position of the vehicle. Magneti Marelli is cooperating to the start of the test phase of the device together with the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers that coordinate the , The FIAT Research Centre, Telecom Italian, AREU (Urgency Emergency Regional Agency – Lombardy) and the Automobile Club d’Italia, Magneti Marelli breathed life into the HeERO (Harmonised eCall European Pilot) pilot project. The Italian particularity is a test conducted on a real end-to-end chain, in other words an actual 112 operational centre located in Varese. Magneti Marelli has developed the devices, which were then installed on the vehicles of volunteering ACI members.
