Water shortage, deforestation, climate change and pollution: these are all current themes that relate to the conditions of the environment in which we live. There are many initiatives at an international level which see citizens, businesses and organizations actively involved in protecting the environment. One of these initiatives is World Environment Day (5 June), which was created to reflect on the actions that everyone can take to improve the conditions of their own environment.
World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 to mark the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, during which the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) was created.
For World Environment Day 2014, Magneti Marelli has launched a photography competition on the theme of environmental sustainability. It is aimed at all Magneti Marelli employees worldwide, who have been able to send in their photos in 2 categories:
- a subject of a landscape, natural, historical or cultural nature that needs to be protected
- everyday actions likely to contribute to protecting the environment
The winning photos have been selected by a panel of professional photographers and are displayed in the plants of the Magneti Marelli employees who have won the competition.
