Already connected from the corporate standpoint, Mako and Magneti Marelli place their brands side by side on the aftermarket too: next to Mako's line of products meant for spare parts distributors, dealers and workshops, Magneti Marelli’s best product lines will now be available in Turkey for the aftermarket sector.
Mako currently distributes products and spare parts under its own brand in the areas of electro-mechanics, lighting and air conditioning systems. Now, Mako’s distribution and logistics network in Turkey will also market products guaranteed by Magneti Marelli in the following sectors:
- Technical and diagnostic tools for workshops, charging stations for air-conditioning units, etc.
- High-quality spare parts such as starters, alternators, lighting, electronic systems and components, batteries, shock absorbers, braking systems, etc.
The goal of integrating the two product lines is to make available to the Turkish dealers and workshops market a wider and deeper product range, capable of covering the broadest technological areas of the automobile. This operation makes it possible to combine the quality of Mako products with the quality that has made Magneti Marelli a global reference point in the automotive sector, and to jointly transfer to the spare parts market two historical experiences and consolidated technological know-how in the world of OE (original equipment).
Today Mako, founded in 1972, is a leader in Turkey in the production of automotive components, with 2 industrial plants, 800 employees and an annual turnover of 150 million Euros.
Mako is part of Magneti Marelli’s corporate structure, which designs and produces hi-tech components and systems for the automotive sector on a global scale, with 46 production plants, 10 R&D centres and 25 application centres in 18 countries throughout the world, for a total of about 28,000 employees and a turnover that totalled 5.4 billion Euros in 2008.
Magneti Marelli operates in the original equipment sector, in the areas of Lighting, Electronic systems, Powertrain, Suspensions and Shock absorber systems, Exhaust systems, Plastic Components & Modules and Motorsport. Magneti Marelli After Market Parts and Services, on the other hand, is the Magneti Marelli division that deals with activities related to the independent spare parts market and workshop networks. After Market Parts and Services numbers approximately 500 employees, 8 facilities throughout the world (Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Greece, France, Poland and Spain); its 2007 turnover was about 240 million Euros. Magneti Marelli After Market Parts and Services distributes automotive spare parts and components to the independent aftermarket through a network of spare parts dealers. Through its affiliated network of workshops distributed throughout the territory, to which it provides know-how and training, it offers products and assistance to motorists. In Europe, Magneti Marelli After Market Parts and Services operates on the repair market under the Magneti Marelli Checkstar brand, while in Latin America, in addition to the Checkstar brand, the Magneti Marelli Cofap brand is historically used as well.
If we combine the various brands, Magneti Marelli After Market Parts and Services numbers approximately 5,000 workshops worldwide, more than 2,000 of them in Italy, about 1,500 in Europe and about 1,500 in South America.
“Our joint experience in the design and production of automotive components and systems for all leading carmakers – stated Dino Maggioni, Managing Director of Magneti Marelli Parts and Services – allows Magneti Marelli and Mako to have a truly complete and qualified approach to the aftermarket as well. Thanks to their presence along the entire automotive manufacturing chain, the two brands represent not only the ability but also the will to transfer and deliver know-how, skills and products to the world of dealers and workshops, in a quick, effective and competitive manner. This is why we will allocate Magneti Marelli’s and Mako’s best resources to this sector”.
“We are extremely proud to strengthen our presence on the aftermarket in Turkey, taking advantage of the best expertise available within our Group – stated Ibrahim Içöz, Mako’s General Manager – As of today, our improved distribution, logistic and technical skills and integration are available to all those who operate in the sector, starting from Mako’s and Magneti Marelli’s historical partners, thanks to this project which improves the already existing synergy between Mako and Magneti Marelli and, together, makes their position on the Turkish OE market and aftermarket even stronger and more pivotal.
