Learning while working: a post-diploma school-work training project for Magneti Marelli in Bari, Sulmona and Melfi
- The initiative involves a Senior Technical Institute (ITS), three upper secondary institutes and the Magneti Marelli plants in the respective areas
- Leading the project is the ITS Cuccovillo in Bari, which will be coordinating the High School Enrico Fermi in Pratola Peligna (L’Aquila), the High School Remo Righetti in Melfi (Potenza) and the High School Guglielmo Marconi - Margherita Hack in Bari
- Applications are open until 16 October for the selection of 24 diploma graduates: at the end of the course, attendees will have the possibility of finding employment with Magneti Marelli.
Magneti Marelli and the “Antonio Cuccovillo” Senior Technical Institute in Bari have set up a project for Postgraduate Training, with the aim of allowing young graduates to acquire specialist knowledge both in the classroom and in the field, developing technical professionalism which can be applied in the world of work. Coordinated by the ITS “Cuccovillo”, the course will also see the participation of three upper secondary schools in the areas of Sulmona, Melfi and Bari, as well as the Magneti Marelli plants in the areas. The project, in fact, will provide also for the participation of the High School Enrico Fermi in Pratola Peligna (L’Aquila), the High School Remo Righetti in Melfi (Potenza) and the High School Guglielmo Marconi - Margherita Hack in Bari.
At the end of the training course, the students will earn a High Technician Diploma for “Product Innovation and Mechanical Processes”, issued by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research and recognised on a European Level.
Furthermore, those obtaining the certification may have the opportunity to find employment with Magneti Marelli.
The course will admit 24 graduates up to the age of 29, who will be selected through a call for applications: candidates can apply until 16 October, according to the modalities published on the website www.itsmeccatronicapuglia.it. The two-year course provides for over 2,250 hours of training, 50% of which will be carried out in the “Cuccovillo” institute, and 50% in the Magneti Marelli plants in the relative areas, which will be hosting the students for their internships.
The initiative falls under the “Dual System”, provided for by the Prime Ministerial Decree of 25 January 2008 for High Technical Education, and law n. 107 of 13 July 2015, known as “La Buona Scuola (Good Schooling)”, which is aimed at creating collaboration between the world of education and the world of business, in order to develop technical and scientific culture.
The course forms part of a wider-ranging project which provides for the collaboration between Magneti Marelli and the ITS “Cuccovillo” in the creation, on a national level, of a model, based on Dual System, for Postgraduate Training and for the alternation of School and Work, which may, in the future, be proposed throughout the country, in areas with Magneti Marelli plants, beginning in the territories where the institutes already involved in this first stage are located.
This project, known as “Symphony for the Future”, aims to involve Magneti Marelli and the ITS Cuccovillo in a multi-year framework agreement which brings together various subjects and organisations in order to work together towards a final objective: offering youngsters the opportunity for a job for which they have been prepared via “Dual System” strategies.

Planning, providing, coordinating and monitoring ITS courses for Magneti Marelli, as well as School-Work activities, with a view to creating a National “Dual System” Model which guarantees a standard of quality and, consequentially, positive repercussions for students, schools and areas involved in the project”.
Within the framework of the project, Magneti Marelli is also committed to contributing to the technical equipment belonging to the ITS “Cuccovillo” and the other institutes involved. A structured process has in fact been identified which provides for the supply of decommissioned but functioning machinery to the institutes involved, which can be used to enhance the equipment in the schools’ workshops. It is an initiative which allows for a new lease of life for equipment of a high technical value, and also permits students to practice on the kind of instrumentation that they would encounter on production lines during their professional activities.

ITS Cuccovillo was one of the first Senior Technical Institutes to be set up in Italy and has been providing Postgraduate Professional Training since 2011 within the field of “New Technology for Made In Italy products” for Mechanics, Mechatronics and Home Systems. Over the years, it has increasingly developed its courses in collaboration with Companies, achieving excellent results from both the companies and the students, with 93% placement in 2017 within 12 months of graduation. ITS Cuccovillo has been awarded every year by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, for merit in terms of quality, attractiveness and placement.
