VW Wolfsburg plant produces 44 million vehicles
Volkswagen celebrates the extraordinary milestone of 44 million cars produced at its main plant in Wolfsburg from the start of the operations 72 years ago.
The milestone vehicle is a Golf, and this model is the absolute protagonist of the VW production at the factory with about 18 million units assembled, followed by the legendary Beetle, built in about 12 million units.
Currently, the Wolfsburg plant produces the Golf, Golf Sportsvan, Touran and Tiguan models as well the e-Golf EV and the Golf GTE hybrid plug-in. Since these last two cars began to be built at the plant they were assembled nearly 70,000, the highest volume for "green" models.
