VW may convert two more German plants for EVs production
According to reports from the German daily Handelsblatt Volkswagen is preparing for an offensive in the electric car market considering converting two other factories in Germany to the production of EVs.
Volkswagen currently builds the Passat midsize car in Emden but the sedan segment has suffered from sagging demand as customers flock to buy SUVs and crossovers, prompting a review of the factory's future. The other plant involved would be that of Hanover in which VW builds vans, including an electric version of the Crafter, in addition to the Amarok pickup and the Tiguan SUV.
Handelsblatt also reported that the Group is examining plans to build a new Škoda brand plant outside the Czech Republic.
