Volvo partner of Lifegate to reduce plastic in the sea
With the support of Volvo Car Italia, the LifeGate PlasticLess project for the reduction of plastics in Italian seas entered in the operational phase, with the installation of the first Seabin device last week in the port of Marina di Varazze.
Within a few days the installation of the other two "baskets of the sea" will be completed in the ports of Marina di Cattolica (RN) and Venezia Certosa Marina (VE).
The announcement was made yesterday during a press conference held at Volvo Studio Milano, during which LifeGate explained that every Seabin plastic removal device is able to capture over half a ton of plastic waste per year, including the microplastics.
The LifeGate PlasticLess project, of which Volvo Car Italia is a partner, is part of Volvo Cars' wide-ranging commitment to sustainability, which this year has also led to the support of the Clean Seas campaign promoted by the United Nations.
As part of the fight against plastics, Volvo announced the project to eliminate disposable plastics in all offices, canteens and in-house events, in favor of more sustainable alternatives, including biodegradable paper, pulp and wood products .
In 2018, the initiative will replace over 140 tonnes of single-use plastic items with products made of non-plastic alternative materials.
