Volkswagen produced 150 million vehicles
On August 24, Volkswagen announced an extraordinary milestone. In about 80 years of productive adventure, the carmaker has assembled its 150 millionth vehicle at the Wolfsburg factory, including obviously two icons like Golf and Beetle.
The milestone model is a blue Golf in the GTE hybrid plug-in variant, a symbol of what will be the gradual transformation of the brand into electrified cars.
Volkswagen's series production began on December 27, 1945 with the Type 1 Käfer, soon followed by the Beetle, built up to 2003 in 21.5 million units.
Along with Beetle, the most popular models of the German carmaker are Golf (over 34 million), Passat (more than 20 million), Jetta (around 19.5 million) and Polo with nearly 17 million units.
At the Wolfsburg plant only, which has been operating for 72 years, production has already exceeded 44 million vehicles.
