Tesla's new Crossover Model Y will be built in China
In its initial phase the new Chinese Tesla factory will produce two models: the known Model 3 and the new crossover based on the same Model 3, the Model Y.
Tesla signed an agreement with the Shanghai Government last week to build its first overseas factory on a 964,885-square-meter site just outside the Chinese metropolis. A project with an estimated cost of about 2 billion dollars.
Based on a feasibility study of the project, carried out by an external environmental assessment company and delivered to local authorities in recent days, Tesla's new Chinese plant will reach a maximum annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles.
