Tesla puts Model Y in the spotlight
During a party held at Hawthorne's Tesla Design Studio in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Elon Musk officially presented the Model Y, the new compact Suv that will enter the range alongside Model X, Model S and Model 3.
It was a shorter event than the usual parties organized by Tesla, in which Musk focused his attention in particular on Tesla's history, from the first difficult debuts until today before revealing the Model Y. Joking about the name: «Model S, X, 3, and now Y ... do you understand?».
About new compact Suv he said it will equipped with two electric motors and will be marketed in a 7-seat configuration and four different versions: Standard Range (390 km range), Performance (480 km range), and Long Range rear-wheel drive ( 540 km) or all-wheel drive (505 km).
The Model Y Long Range will be the first to be launched to the market in the fall of 2020 and will cost 47,000 dollars (AWD 51,000 dollars), followed by the Performance (60,000 dollars) Musk said.
The cheapest version of the line up, the Standard Range will not be available until 2021 and will cost 39,000 dollars.
