Now is official. Volvo to start assembly operations in India this year
Volvo has officially announced that by the end of the year it will launch direct assembly operations in India to ride the wave of the premium segment's growing success in the Asian market, as recalled by CEO Hakan Samuelsson.
The Swedish carmaker has chosen as production location its plant near Bangalore, run by Volvo Group (truck and bus), and the first model to be produced will be the new XC90 SUV, which will be followed by other cars in the future.
According to Volvo, India is set to grow steadily and steadily over the next few years. At present, the brand holds a 5% share of the local premium market (1,400 units registered in 2016, 24% more) and it plans to double it by 2020.
