Mitsubishi expands its Chinese business
Following the announcement of the production of the Eupheme electric SUV, Mitsubishi announced two further fundamental steps in its business expansion plan in China, realized through the local GMMC joint venture created with Guangzhou Automobile Group.
GAC Mitsubishi Motors has started local production of 4B4 and 4J1 engines and has inaugurated the work of the research and development center to be completed in 2020.
GMMC's new Chinese engine plant has an annual production capacity of 200,000 units.
It will produce the new petrol engine with a 1.5-liter direct injection turbocharger (4B4) that will be mounted on the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV and the 4J1 engine that will equip the outlander SUV of local production.
GMMC has also agreed with the city of Changsha for the expansion and transfer to a new research and development center in a new 41-hectare area that includes a route for testing cars.
The new hub will further strengthen GMMC's technological development functions in order to meet the needs of the local market.
