LG Chem considering 2nd EV battery plant in U.S.
South Korean electric vehicle battery maker LG Chem is considering building a second U.S. factory.
The investment of the company, that counts General Motors and Volkswagen Group among its customers, would be around $1.7 billion for the plant that could begin production in 2022
Kentucky and Tennessee are among the candidates for the plant's site. A decision on the plant's site is expected to be made by the end of this month
LG Chem's new factory would primarily supply Volvo, FCA and potentially Hyundai, GM and Volkswagen.
«We are currently pursuing another production base» LG Chem's new Ceo Shin Hak Cheol told reporters this week, without elaborating on the country.
