Kia Motors officially opens new India production facility
Kia Motors Corporation has officially opened its new Indian production facility in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. Following a USD 1.1 billion investment, the new Kia Motors India manufacturing plant is now fully operational.
The grand opening ceremony takes place last week, just two years after construction began in the fourth quarter of 2017. The plant is the new production home for Kia’s first "made in India" product, the Seltos compact SUV. Local sales of the Seltos have exceeded 40,600 units since deliveries began in July.
Kia Motors announced it will begin production of two new vehicle models in India next year to help lift local sales.
The first model, to be unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo in February, will be a new compact MPV model which is scheduled to go into production in the first half of the year. It will be followed by a new entry level SUV in the second half of the year.
Kia has set a local sales target of 160,000 units in 2020 for its three models produced in India.
The facility has an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles which the company hopes to fully utilise within three years with three models for sale locally and also for export to markets in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.
