Ford: the evolved Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system debuts on the new Edge
The new generation of Edge introduces an advanced version of the Ford intelligent all-wheel drive system, developed thanks to the use of artificial intelligence that ensures a smooth transition of the torque between all 4 wheels, for greater adherence to the road especially in slippery conditions.
The technology evaluates the level of grip of the wheels on the road surface and transfers the torque distribution up to 50/50 between the rear axle and the front axle, depending on the driving conditions, adjusting it in just 20 milliseconds and increasing safety and comfort driving.
The evolved version of this technology, with the disconnection mode of the four-wheel drive uses an artificial intelligence software to detect the readings made by tens of sensors arranged around the car.
Switching to front-wheel drive when the integral one is not necessary, the function helps to save fuel with a 6.5% reduction in fuel consumption.
