Daimler to invest in Alabama to produce a fully electric Mercedes SUV
The Daimler Group has announced that it will invest 1 billion dollars at its US plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the future production of a fully electric Mercedes sport-utility vehicle.
Construction works on a dedicaterd battery assemblage structure will start next year in view of the official production of the model expected for the beginning of the new decade.
Of course, the zero-emissions SUV will come under the new EQ brand.
Since starting operations in Tuscaloosa (20 years ago), Daimler has already invested nearly 6 billion dollars in the factory and in 2016 the plant has built more than 310,000 Mercedes models between the SUV range and the C-Class sedan.
