Daihatsu eyes joint vehicle production with Toyota in Thailand
Executive Director Soichiro Okudaira announced the Daihatsu project to produce vehicles jointly with Toyota in Thailand.
The subsidiary of the Japanese Group will therefore use Toyota's already operational manufacturing facilities in the emerging Southeast Asian market, even though it has not yet revealed which models will be assembled at local factories.
The operation will enable Daihatsu to strengthen its position in the Asean regions where it is already present in Indonesia and Malaysia. During 2016, Daihatsu sales in Asean countries rose by 15.4% to nearly 200,000 units.
