BMW to celebrate 10 years of production in India
The BMW Group is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its manufacturing operations in India. The carmaker has inaugurated its plant in Chennai (the factory is active, to be precise, in Mahindra World City) on March 29, 2007 and since then it has steadily improved its sales results in the emerging Asian market.
The factory (which employs more than 500 employees) currently assembles, on two shifts, 1 Series, 3 Series, 3 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1, X3 and X5 and in total were produced 57 thousand units. Over the years, the BMW localization level at the plant has grown to over 50%.
