BMW Brilliance production capacity to reach 450,000 cars per year
On the occasion of the ceremony for the production start of the long wheelbase 5-Series at the Dadong plant (Shenyang), the joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive announced that China's production capacity will grow to 450,000 units a year, including also the Tiexi factory.
The company invested around 1 billion Euros in the last three years to increase the pace of assembly.
The Dadong plant has been active since 2004 and it will shortly benefit from the production debut of ithe X3 SAV alongside the long wheelbase variant of 5 Series, while the Tiexi plant is operational since 2012 and assembles the X1 long wheelbase (also a hybrid Plug-in variant), the 1 Series sedan, the Series 2 Active Tourer, the 3 Series and a long wheelbase version of the 3 Series sedan, all cars dedicated to the Chinese market.
In 2016, for the first time, the BMW Group exceeded the threshold of half a million units sold in China, its main global market in the first four months of 2017. Three years ago, the joint-venture agreement between BMW and Brilliance was extended to all 2028.
