Magneti Marelli’s goal in this area is to overcome the challenge of matching the increasing complexity of the automotive systems and the expanding demand for new functionalities, to the need of holding back the costs to foster a greater diffusion of technology itself. Two essential drivers for this purpose are the connectivity technologies and the opening to “third parts”.
Some examples of technologies suited to this end are:
- Cost benefits coming from the reduction of materials weight and consequent fuel saving.
- Open Platform Approach (es.: Linux, Autosar), open platforms to reduce investments and increase modularity, flexibility and reuse.
- New generation architectures, lower building complexity, more functionalities (e.g. network and control units integration)
- Telematic services to reduce operating costs (e.g. insurance services, fleet management, etc…)
