BMW to launch i2 EV on joint platform with Daimler
BMW plans a small battery-powered car called the i2 as the first model based on a new electric platform developed with Mercedes-Benz maker Daimler.
The confirmation came from the number one of BMW Group research and development department Klaus Fröhlich.
The i2 will be similar in size to the i3 launched in 2014, but without its (expensive) carbon fiber body. The i2 will have about 300 km range.
According to the authoritative reports gathered in Germany by the Media Manager Magazin the car will cost less than 30,000 euros ($34,000) and will go on sale in 2024. The sales target would be 500,000 units per year.
