Magneti Marelli’s aim is to bring technology and innovation from the tracks to the line manufacturing, and gather from the line the cost reduction and safety increase approaches.
The areas were the research is focused are:
Engine downsizing maintaining or better increasing the performances (example: for new F1 engines starting from 2014 the challenge is to have the same performances but with minus 35% fuel consumption)
Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI pumps and injectors) & components (coils, sensors, actuators)
Hybrid Systems (Recovery and supply of kinetic and exhaust energy)
Constant connection of the car not only to the infrastructures but also to other cars (V2X Telemetry)
Safety and Performances
New engine electronic control units to maximize both performances and safety;
Data loggers to examine in details the car in his operational conditions to allow further developments;
Human-machine interfaces (steering wheels, dashboard, monitors) able to include the driver as a whole with the car and allow him to interact with this last in an effective, fast and safe way.
